A very large percentage of our economy relies on small businesses.  As a small business owner myself, I have the experience and the understanding that when I hire an employee, I am no longer responsible solely for myself and my family, but I am also responsible for my employee’s livelihood.  This is a position of trust.  Our small business owners are struggling with Oregon’s tax code, with the loss of customers as businesses and customers have lost income and stopped purchasing goods and services.  It is a downward spiral.  It is not enough to say that the higher taxes are directed only at very large businesses.  Large businesses often are the largest customers of small businesses.
