Fix the Economy

First and foremost, people need to be able to get back to work.  Increased spending built on increased taxes provides only – at best – a short-term solution, and in the process these higher taxes discourage businesses with long-term, permanent jobs from locating and thriving in East County.  Our legislature should make certain that areas such as the Columbia Corridor have fast-track approvals for all permits and other government requirements at all levels of government.  In addition, the legislature should embark on a top-to-bottom review over the next few years, and compare our legislative framework with the state laws in other states that are not experiencing one of the highest statewide unemployment rates in the country.  When the rest of the country is talking about Oregon’s new cooperative attitude towards business development, then we will know we are on the right track.
